Much too often, the good thing about a scuba diving regulator is the kind of first and second stage it has. For this Sherwood SR2 review, we showed that it has a dry-sealed balanced piston first stage and compact second-stage combo. The efficiency of the SR2 is further confirmed in its test on the ANSTI machine which showed that it easily conquers each RMV/depth-test level with excellent work of breathing scores. Also, when underwater, the SR2 delivered dry and easy breathing in all positions so that the diver using it is assured of the best while underwater.

The SR2 is designed with a two-piece piston-type first stage which is capacitated to create the precise optimum balance and intermediate pressure control. This is environmentally sealed to ensure that salt deposits, sand, grit and even ice crystals don’t affect its performance. For its second stage, the SR2 is constructed using black hi-tec plastics and polymers with a satin-finish, marine-grade, and stainless-steel retaining ring to hold the purge mechanism in place. By all standard, this is a gear that is built to be formidable in its working and highly comfortable to use.

Sherwood SR2 Review

The SR2 utilizes a pneumatically balanced second stage. The second stage contains a SMART demand lever and floating crown which reacts to depressurization and relieves the load on the seat, extending seat life while promoting consistent performance. Importantly, the second stage employs a unique single adjustment point to simultaneously set opening effort and high flow performance with one-motion; the need to make separate adjustment, therefore, has been eliminated.

This extremely compact and lightweight valve is pneumatically balanced for consistent performance, delivering gas at the same rate regardless of the remaining tank pressure. It sports a single breathing resistance adjustment knob (BRA), which sets the effort needed to crack open the valve and adjusts the flow rate at the same time.

Editors’ Opinion

Not just a compact sized regulator, the Sherwood SR2 is one of the simplest and easy-to-use regulators I have seen in a while. The diver that desires a simple yet effective regulator should consider it very highly.
