Dive Rite Nomad XT BCD

A Review

Dive Rite XT BCD Review

Dive Rite has created a super dynamic sidemount system which is the Nomad XT. This BCD is dynamic in the sense that it is not only fit for use in backmount systems but can also be used backmounted doubles, singles or CCR type system. You will agree that with the Nomad XT, Dive Rite has created a BCD that has the explorer and the recreational diver in mind. In this Dive Rite Nomad XT review, we will expose the qualities and features of this sophisticated buoyancy compensator.

Many divers know that when underwater, one needs to have a considerable amount of lift in the hip region so that diving will be less stressful and more fun. Many of the BCD around have been trying to create a panacea for this seemingly little issue, but with the Nomad XT, Dive Rite has solved that. The Nomad XT is designed to be narrow at the neck and wide-angled at the sides and has added lift at the bottom. This design invariably gives more lift in the hip region.

Dive Rite Nomad XT Review

With this ingenious design, the Nomad XT helps divers to relieve weight off their shoulder and distributes it to their hips hence creating more streamlining comfort during a diving session.

The XT-Harness System takes advantage of the extremely tough SuperFabric brand material. This offers a super-tough yet flexible exterior and bladder for maximum resistance to punctures and abrasions. This rig is nearly indestructible while still offering flexible properties.

Perhaps the greatest feature of the Dive Rite XT-Harness System is its modular properties. The harness, wing, buttplate, and crotch strap are all singular pieces. This means you can change out pieces at will or even leave them detached entirely. This is a great feature for those that travel or who require the ability to adjust the rig depending on the demands of the dive.

It has the inflator positioned strategically at the top center of the wing and behind the neck. This sure guarantees more efficiency of every dive move exerted. There are some dual OPVs located at the bottom of the wing which allows for gas dumping from any angle. Also, divers who wish to swap the position of their inflator to route from the bottom, can now do so and retain an OPV dump at the bottom of the wing for safe gas dumping when inverted.

To talk about the overall design of the Nomad, you have a highly toughened exterior that uses the SuperFabric technology. This system of technology ensures that the Nomad XT is duly resistant to abrasion and puncture. This toughness regardless, the Nomad is still a very flexible and easy-to-use BCD system that is in a class of its own.

For its control system, the Nomad XT has a Gusset Control System (GCS) which is designed to allow divers exert maximum control lift when switching out various types of cylinders, such as going from steel to aluminum or twin tanks to single. Without the Gusset Control and without using the wing keepers on the waist belt, the Nomad XT can still deliver some50 lbs. of lift.

In addition to its rugged exterior, the Nomad XT has the added benefit of being a modular system: the harness, wing, buttplate and crotch strap are all separate elements. This allows the traveling explorer (or any diver wishing to modify their rig) the ability to trade out wings, remove the buttplate or make any fit adjustments necessary to meet the objective of the dive mission.

Editors’ Opinion

Being that a divers lift is quite important to adequate buoyancy, the Dive Rite Nomad is a very fitting option for divers (professional or recreational) who want the best lift when diving.
